So let me start by saying Turkey is da bomb!!! I ate so much I think I slept for 2 days straight......We still have tons, so I imagine I'll be eating more :)
We had 6 guests here for Turkey day. Luckily they were all cat people so I got fawned over like mad. The only kids that got more attention than me were mom's foster litter of Maine Coons. Their still babies so it's understandable. I'm getting a bit bigger so I'm apparently loosing a bit of my baby cuteness.
Wednesday is the big day. Phase 1 of my 2 part surgery to repair my left eye is happening. My right one was of no use to me as it had ruptured when I was a baby, so it's already been removed. My left eye, although it is small and underdeveloped, does have some function. The problem is due to the size and it being deep set, my 3rd eyelid obstructs what eyesight I have. Plus I have virtually no upper eyelid, so I have fur in my eye constantly. This surgery is supposed to correct all that. It's effectively the same surgery my brother just finished having. While he was miserable for 3 weeks (as he says) living in a cone, he's very happy not to have the eye pain anymore. I guess that means I have something to look forward to......
Humom is a little stressed, she's worried I won't be okay being segregated from the others in my own room for awhile. I'll be lonely I'm sure but the end result is worth it right? Everyone cross your fingers for me.... I'll do my best to avoid pain med blogging and tweeting....although it could be entertaining :P
Almost forgot....Phoebe, one of the Russian Blue sisters was adopted on Saturday. We have (as a group) 15 more coming in on Tuesday. We'll see how many humom brings home :)

Adoptions.....changes in roommates :)
I know I posted my house mates a little while back..... Some of those have moved on to permanent homes via adoptions. I just realized it's going to be really hard to keep you all up to date on the current residents. Some stay only a few weeks and others have stayed months..... I guess the best thing will be for me to just post adoptions weekly (if we have any) and new ones that come in. So as an update from the original list, we still have: Onyx, Fiddle, Mandolin, Mr Magoo,Gypsy, Booger Bear, the 7 Maine Coons babies, and 2 new Russian Blues named Phoebe and Malia. Today 3 adoptions caused my pals Banjo, Zagnut and Buster (new one only here 2 weeks) to move on. They will be missed, each for their unique presence. Zagnut and Banjo had been here awhile. Zagnut probably the longest as he is just over 6 months old and came here at a young age of 8 weeks. He went to a great home with a 6yr old Autistic boy and will be perfect for that family. Banjo is 4 months old and came here at an age of about 10 weeks. Buster was a mere 10 weeks old and barely had enough time to adjust to being here. He was adorable though. The interesting thing about these adoptions....2 were solid black kitties. The rescue did a total of 15 adoptions today.....5 were black.....how impressive is that??? I hear black kitties are the hardest to adopt. Well, humom is sad as she will miss the ones that she bonded with but very happy that 3 found great homes.....She's also exhausted so I imagine I'll be loosing the computer here shortly as it appears she's preparing for bed......Goodnight all!! Sweet dreams of nip and tuna!!! <purr>

Met my first dog today...what fun.
So humom took me to some place today to pick out my harness. I hate this flippin thing and before it's over I'm gonna chew right through it I swear. Humom says I have to wear it and get used to it because when I have my eye surgery on the 28th they will be attaching something called and e-collar to it. Guess that means I'll have the same rig my brother has been wearing for the last 3 weeks. Yipee!! I'm excited......NOT!!
So while we are there, I smelt something funny and started struggling to get free of humom to check it out. Finally she sat down on the floor holding me and let me get close to the origin of the smell. Whatever it was breathed on me and I wigged totally out. I started hissing, growling and struggling to get loose. Humom had to put me back in my carrier cause I was so worked up. She told me later that it was a nice dog and that he wouldn't have hurt me as he liked cats. Well, I don't care if he liked cats or not, he smelled funny..........

Been a little bit...The Holidays (whatever that means)
Sorry, it's been a little bit since my last post. Things have been pretty hectic here. Humom also hasn't been feeling to well so the computer hasn't been on/out much. I'm not sure what's going on, but from my perspective humom has been down. Not ill, just kinda bummed. I overheard her and hudad talking about the Holidays (not that I know what that is) and she seemed to pinpoint that as the problem. I hope she cheers up soon, I don't like seeing her like this. I spend a lot of time nuzzling her as it seems to help.
So the Ringworm babies are getting better finally. After two sulfur dips (boy do they stink) it appears they all may now be on the road to recovery. The poor little babies. One is missing most of it's fur along the back. Humom says she's never seen one this bad. I'm just crossing my fingers they'll be ready for alter soon. This way they can make the adoption rush before the holidays.
So what exactly is "the Holidays". I understand it means food....but I don't really grasp the whole thing. I mean why get together with family that you don't have anything to do with throughout the year?? I mean you obviously don't like these people otherwise you'd see them more often right? We cats have it made. I mean once we leave the nest so to speak, we never see our families again (unless of course we end up in a home with our siblings/parent). I feel sorry for people and the obligation they feel to keep these strange traditions.
We're actually having a Thanksgiving party sorta. None of the people coming to our house are blood related. Several are other volunteers with the rescue and the others are friends of humom. Sad fact is that us four-legged kids will have to be put up for a good part of the day. Humom says she doesn't trust us to be free with all the food out. I guess I can understand that since most of us are young and have no manners. From what I understand of the arrangement the kittens (under 10 weeks) will be in the kitten room. The teenagers will be relegated to the downstairs bonus room with a couple adults. Myself and the rest will be in the master bedroom. What fun that will be. Luckily everyone coming here will be cat people so I'm sure some of us will get a reprieve sooner or later. Humom has also promised us all turkey as a bribe for being good that day :) Never had turkey but I hear it's all the rage.
So in closing this entry..... I understand the holidays can be rough for some and I wish everyone a pleasant day. Don't let the family annoy you to much and eat till you can't eat anymore. Happy early Thanksgiving to everyone!!!!

What's that smell?!?!?!
So, for those of you familiar with shelter/rescue contagions, you'll appreciate this tidbit.....
When I was first taken out of the shelter (my brother and I), we were both pretty ill. She worked really hard to get us well. Everything from sub q fluids, B12 / B complex, antibiotics, etc. Prior to humom having us, she had something called a "clean" house in the rescue circles. "Clean" means that she's never had anything that perpetuates itself over and over with each new incoming group. Well that all changed pretty quickly. Even with quarantine procedures / designated areas, things still happen. While she is still feline distemper free (knock on wood) it appears my brother and I brought in ringworm. Ringworm is pretty common in high population situations and due to my longer hair it wasn't noticed right away. Since my arrival humom has had cat after cat get the fungus and while it's easily treated, it's still a pain in the tookas!! When a cat gets it, it cannot attend adoptions due to the contagious nature. So, humom reached a boiling point yesterday. Her 7 itty bitty Maine Coon babies now have it. She went so far as to Lime/Sulfur dip 12 cats. Talk about stink!!!! OMG!! I've never smelt anything so bad in all my life. It turned the white kitties orange!! Humom actually threw away the clothes she was wearing to do it. Hudad helped and they accomplished this feat on the outside back deck with a heated drying cage but those babies still stink!!! I will not step foot near the kitten room!!! I hope this helps! According to humom, short of burning the house to the ground, now that it's here it could pop up at any time on any cat. I feel horrible....but supposedly this it an initiation that was bound to happen sooner or later. Just so happens it was me that gave the "gift that keeps on giving".....and she's still keeping me?!?!

Naner, Naner Naner
I spent the better part of the morning tormenting the babies. These guys are all under 10 weeks old. The majority came from one local shelter (the same shelter humom rescued me from). There are 13 in there. Humom put up baby gates so she could leave the door open for better heat circulation in the house. Otherwise, that room gets terribly cold and she has to keep a closed oil heater in there. I wanted mom to let them out to play, but they are kinda small. One did escape the other day and the adults chased him into a corner (playing) so he was easy to find:) I imagine they can't stay out because they might get into places where we would never find them. This room is technically the kitten room anyway....it's all set up with everything that would entertain a kitten for days......

GREAT NEWS!!!!
Got some really awesome news this morning!! Humom is dancing around the house like she's been in the nip herself!!
The Doc that my brother and I have been seeing called to offer her holiday wishes to humom. She said that since her and her family have decided to forgo a gift exchange this year, she will be donating some funds toward my eye surgery. Now while this will not cover the entire cost of the procedure, it is reducing it significantly. My surgery is going to cost now about half what my brothers did!!! While it's still a lot of money, it's definitely more attainable now. I should be able to get it before Christmas :) I chalk it up to my winning personality!! Everyone just falls in love with me!

My Brother and Me - When humom first got us. |
Crazy Kitties.....
Humom was livid the first time she found him in the trash can. She took him out, scolded him and closed the lid. After sitting back down on the couch for her coffee she heard noises in the kitchen again. When she went to look the second time she took her camera and snapped this shot. She's since had to move the shorter recycle bin as that's what he was using to get into the trash can :)

My fate is decided :)
Just wanted to let everyone know.....humom and hudad have made their intentions to keep me known with the rescue group. They are now working to save the money for my eye surgery. If all goes well, I might have it before Christmas. In the meantime, humom keeps lubricant in my eye to minimize the cornea damage from my fur rubbing it. They told me they couldn't morally remove what little sight I have and that since I'm their kid now they will do whatever it takes to make my surgery happen. This is terrific news!! I am truly lucky!!

Suitcase Surprise :)
I tried desperately to sneak in hudad's suitcase. I used every possible sneaky trick I have. While he was off packing up his toiletries, I tried snuggling in under his clothes. He found me right away. I don't know where he's off to, but I wanna go with him. He leaves every week and I only get to see him on the weekends. Humom seems okay with it. She does complain once in awhile but not terribly often. The alpha of the house, Taz, which is hudad's cat primarily, told me he's been trying to catch a ride in the suitcase for years. I'm smaller, I should be able to pull it off. Could you imagine his face when he gets where he's headed and opens his suitcase?? I bet he would be so happy to see me!! He'd be so over joyed I'd get tuna for sure!! I have to figure out a more stealthy way to get in there. Maybe his CPAP bag is the trick.....I'll have to try that next time.

Tail up all the time
So, everyone keeps commenting on the fact that my tail is raised all the time, is it really that odd? Had another human mention it again yesterday. It's comfortable for me and I like it. I always have a little spring in my step and a bit of a prance going on.What can I say I'm just a happy cat. There was a time when my fate was unknown and I didn't particularly feel very well most days. Now that I'm healthy, get fed well, have a nice warm home with lots of love, why not strut my stuff? Apparently the humans are enthralled.....just another of my endearing qualities :)

Exciting day so far :)
So humom was up before dawn this morning. That's very unusual for her. Last night she did something extra weird too. She took my brother and put him in a room all by himself. This is the room we first lived in when we came here. Humom called it quarantine. My brother of course serenaded all night because I had to sit at the door and antagonize him. I think if humom could have strangled us both she would have. Between me and my brother and several teenagers running around, I doubt humom got much sleep.
So when humom got up this morning she wasn't particularly happy. She took me and my brother and placed us in a small bag like structure. Last time I was in one of these we went to see someone called an ophthalmologist. It appears that was today's agenda as well. We were in motion for what felt like forever, but since I have no real sense of time it could have been only an hour. The nice ophthalmologist examined me again. I've been trying to tell humom for months that I can make out shapes and see light/dark from my remaining eye but she's been ignoring me. Finally a professional agrees. This is great news!!!
We're back home now, without my brother, as he's having some kind of surgery today. It's phase one of a process to be completed on 11/5. I'll get to see him later when humom picks him up. I'll then get to antagonize him through the door again :)
Humom is still a little upset. She called hudad and told him that they needed to talk. She said in order to save my remaining eye, I need surgery like what my brother is having. This surgery is pretty expensive and she's pretty sure she can't afford it. The problem is that technically I'm a rescue kitty. I still belong to the rescue and humom and hudad have been struggling with keeping me. Humom says she doesn't feel right having the rescue pay for my surgery for her to then decide she's not letting me get adopted. She also doesn't think her and hudad can afford the surgery. She's struggling with what to do.....I want to stay with humom, but I also need the surgery to save my eye. Now I understand why she's so upset.......

Seriously???
Why won't these furry things hold still??? I hear them and I try to swat them, but I keep missing. Don't they get I'm blind??? There are so many of them you'd think I could at least hit one. They come and go.....the numbers are always changing. Last I heard Humom say was that 12 are still to small for altering and can't be adopted yet, 1 is sick, 1 is scheduled for pretty extensive eye surgery, 9 get dragged somewhere every Saturday for adoptions, 4 never leave and appear to be permanent residents....then there is me....
Humom told me she found me in a shelter on 7/30/2012. She said I was about 15 weeks old at the time. There were 2 of us and since I've been with this other boy as far back as I can remember, I think we're siblings. Humom says we look nothing alike though so our mother must have not been very discriminating :) According to humom he is a Lynx Point Siamese. He's also the one scheduled for the extensive eye surgery. He's lucky, he has some vision. His issue is he has no upper eyelids so his fur is always in his eyes. This 2 part surgery is supposed to correct that. Humom says when he's recovered he will also go up for adoption. Apparently my brother and I had some kind of infection at birth. It appears that I got the worst of it as I'm mostly blind. I'm truly glad humom rescued us. I cannot imagine what would have happened had we stayed in that cage at the shelter for much longer. I just wonder what humom plans to do with me........
