RIP Baby Kaylee

This little girl had the odds stacked against her from the very beginning. Abandoned by her mom, found at 2-3days old, you had a very rough start. I'm happy we got to meet you and spend 8 weeks with you.

You presence was a blessing and your spirit will not be forgotten. <Sad Ears> throughout our home today.

Lots of Changes......Excitement, Apprehension, etc

Sorry there hasn't been an update in awhile.........

Humom is retiring from the local rescue she has been volunteering with for many years. It's sad, but she is preparing for a big cross country move. The plan is to be in Las Vegas by the end of Feb 2014.

Over the last several months many of our foster babies have been adopted. Some were transferred to other fosters and we are down to only 13 non permanent residents (from at one point over 60).

We currently have:
Momma Lucy and her 5 little ones (now 6 weeks old) who are still on a momma cam at http://99.69.205.17:8088/
Kaylee (came to us as a 3 day old orphan) who is now almost 7 weeks old
Hershey (came to us at 5 weeks old, found wandering a parking lot by himself) who is now 11 weeks old
And 5 of our older ones, been with us a little while (Pearl, Duskie, Edan, Ochre and Liquorice). Some of these guys were born here and are now almost 7 months old.

Due to transition, most of our fosters will be leaving our care over the next month or so. Humom has several trips schedueled out to Vegas for house shopping. I'm sure she'll find a new volunteer oppurtunity once moved.....or should I say the oppurtunity will find her :)

Humom is seriously thinking about keeping on of the older kids. She's worried about moving the 6 of us across the country but if any of the older ones could handle it that would be Duskie. Humom says she doesn't have a black kitty and he would be perfect. He's such a love and very much what she calls and empathy kitty. This boy she can drape across her neck and wear him like a scarf.

Another interesting this is I've been turned into a traveling gnome. Yes, there is a flat "Samson" now that gets to go on all these trips and even travel with dad. In the last couple weeks I've been to Las Vegas and Milwaukee (twice). Next week I have Houston, week after Chicago and then back to Vegas. My flat me is having way more fun :(

I think that pretty much covers the latest..... I'll leave you with a picture of flat me in Vegas being arrested for possession of catnip :)

Wow..What a week!

This week was just CRAZY!

We had over 20 temporary houseguests from Monday-Saturday. Humom is exhausted!!!!

We just now updated the camera feeds! They've been down for awhile because we did some re-arranging.

We've put the 20 2lb kitties in a big room where they can run and play all they want. Humom can go lie on the bed and watch tv with her babies!!

The 2 other cameras are the remaining little ones. There are 9 in one and 8 in the other including 2 siamese/ragdoll mixes (so cute!!).

We also still have the three adults (Sybil, Calypso, and Nutmeg). Nutmeg leaves us next Sunday for a great barn home. Calypso is now up for adoption along with Sybil. Sybil has become such a great girl. She's so bonded to humom!!! She's also my new playmate. She's come a long way since she arrived!!!

Sad news however, humom is leaving rescue temporarily later this year. Looks like we're going to be making a big move after the first of the year. Humom will have to stop after this years kitten season  (Sept/Oct) in order to prepare for the move. Hopefully she can find a good group where we're moving so she can start volunteering again when we get there.

Figuring out how she's going to move us kids should be entertaining :)

Hope everyone had a wonderful dad's day today! Keep purring ya'll!!!!

Crazy Week - emergency surgery for humom

Okay so Hudad was home this week and for some reason Humom disappeared Tuesday night and did not return until Friday afternoon. When she got home she was laid up and on meds. Hudad had to take care of all of us for the several days she was gone and is still doing most of our care now that she's home. We were all clueless as to what was going on.....

Heard hudad explaining what happened and while I'm still not 100% sure of the details I now know humom went to the ER on Tuesday night, was admitted and rushed into surgery at 4:30am on Weds. According to what I've been able to find out, she had something called a bowel obstruction. Apparently this isn't terribly uncommon in gastric bypass patients. Even though humom has been doing really well (2 years out from the bypass), she had a blockage that was past the point of non-surgical removal methods. She's going to be fine, but is on limited activity for the next 4 weeks.

Hudad did an awesome job of caring for us! We are very lucky that he was in town this week. I'm sure Humom feels the same way!!! If he hadn't been here (off on one of his business trips) things could have been really bad.

Hudad took Delilah in for her 2nd phase of Surgery, got Wiggle to his acupuncture appointment, kept us clean and fed while all the while seeing to humom. We can't thank him enough!!! We also can't tell him how much we appreciate his willingness to care for all of us. He could have easily called the rescue that humom volunteers for and said he couldn't manage it. Instead he took all of humoms fosters as his own and did a fabulous job!!! Humom is a very, very lucky woman!!!

Fosters update:
Kilo has gone to her forever home
Cashmere has been spayed and transferred to another foster
Calypso went in for spay but instead came home with 5 orphans (all grey/white) 2 weeks old
Added another semi-feral mom (Possum) with her 4 gingers 6 weeks old
Added 3 from a local shelter (flame point Siamese and 2 ginger tabbies) 7 weeks old

Humom is now drowning in Gingers!!!! Squee!!!!!

Lots of updates!!!!

So as you may imagine things move pretty quickly here during kitten season. We have a lot of fosters in the house and they come and go at a pretty rapid pace.

Last weekend we had an adoption that made humom so upset she had to step outside to cry. We lost a long time house companion :( Mrs Mandolin finally found her perfect home. She went to live with a very nice young man as his only pet. We will miss her terribly!!!

Additionally, Mrs Guinevere (our Maine Coon Momma) transferred to another foster home. What a sweet, sweet girl she is. We know she will adopt very soon!

I think I also mentioned in an earlier post that Charlie (wolfie) went to rescue. Good news! He was adopted by a local family that loves him very much!!!

The rest of the horde is doing pretty well. We added 5 more kittens into the group to help out a fellow volunteer. She needed the space to take in another feral mom and kittens. The 5 we took were 5 weeks old and mingled with our 5 week old bunch just fine :)

We could be receiving another mom any day. She's an outdoor cat that is friendly and very, very pregnant. The lady that has been feeding her is supposed to advise us as soon as she's been caught so we can pick her up. We're hoping it's before she gives birth!!!! Worried we might not find the kittens otherwise.

So as of this moment we still have:
Guinevere's 4 kittens at 8 weeks
Cashmere Mom and her 4 kittens at 5 weeks
5 kittens at 5 weeks
Calypso mom with her kitten (5 weeks)
Calypso's 3 orphans (2 at 4 weeks, 1 at 6 weeks)
Nutmeg Momma and her 6 kittens at 3 weeks
Nutmegs 2 orphans at 3 weeks
Delilah (needs eye surgery)
Sybil (torti-point Siamese)

The camera feeds got changed around. We now have one dedicated to the weened kittens (with appearances by Cashmere mom that's living with them). One is still dedicated to Nutmeg and her 8. Lastly Calypso has a feed as well. She only has one baby with her full-time with random appearances by her orphans. All of hers are technically weened, however, wiggle the orange tabby hasn't been feeling well since his shots last Saturday so he's been getting dedicated momma time :)

If we get the other momma before she gives birth, we'll add another feed. Seems watching the birth has been pretty popular. Nutmeg had a large audience for hers :)

Needless to say humom stays exhausted! It's hard these days to get computer time :) We were on twitter last night for the first time in over a week. We apologize to all our furpals!!! We miss you guys terribly and will try to do better :) <nuzzles> and <headbutts> all around!!!!

Changes of camera feeds, etc

So mom Guinevere has successfully weened her 5 little munchkins. As a result those lovely little babies have moved from their large enclosure to being in general population along with Mom. Replacing her in the enclosure is Nutmeg with her 6 one week olds....

Now there are only 3 camera feeds :(

Delilah has also graduated to general population :)

We still have the same group, just moved some around, took away whelping boxes, etc.....

Won't be long before the Maine Coon litter is ready for adoptions. That will make humom really sad :(

Charlie got a great home locally!!! He now has 3 children to love him and keep him company! Humom misses him more than she thought she would!

Delilah - Medical Sponsorship

Delilah had her professional photo shoot yesterday. Isn't she beautiful? After having her looked at by our vet this past week, we have been referred to the same specialist that did mine and Mr Magoo's eyelid reconstruction last year. In order to do this we are looking for medical sponsorship to help the rescue defray some of the costs incurred for my treatment. Please consider a contribution in any amount (every little bit helps) to Kitty City Kansas Rescue (kittycityks@aol.com) via Paypal. There is also a link on the group website at www.kittycityks.com. Thank you in advance for your generosity!
